DIFFICIL-S® is a powerful cleaner and disinfectant that can be used on hard surfaces, equipment, utensils, walls, floors and soft furnishings and is one of the most powerful broad spectrum disinfectants ever developed. It has recently received a Recommendation 2 from the Department of Health’s Rapid Review Panel which no other product in its class has achieved.

DIFFICIL-S® uses chlorine dioxide as its main component as opposed to chlorine which is used in similar disinfectants to aid infection control. Chlorine dioxide has totally different properties to chlorine and is known as a 'free radical'. Simply put this means that chlorine dioxide is a very strong electron scavenger which attacks the chemical make-up of bacteria extremely aggressively. As such, the compound does not need a strong dilution rate making it very user-friendly due to its low odour. Even at its low dilution rate of 1:400, it will still achieve at least a 5 log reduction of 99.999% against clostridium difficile (inc spores), MRSA, listeria, e.coli, salmonella, pseudomonas, mycobacteria (tubercle bacilli), norovirus, swine flu and other pathogens. Chlorine-based disinfectants can only achieve the same kill at a much higher dilution rate which would make its use highly toxic.

DIFFICIL-S® uses chlorine dioxide as its main component which allows it to be used in a lower concentration whilst still achieving a 5-log reduction of 99.999% against known pathogens. Due to its highly active nature, therefore, it is presented in a two-part sachet system to ensure stability during storage.

DIFFICIL-S® has been tested and found to be compatible with certain polypropylene carpets, specifically the following brands:-
- JHS HOSPI-SUPREME (100% 2ply high twist, heat-set polypropylene)
- JHS HOSPI-LUX (100% stain proof polypropylene)
- HECKMONDWIKE PLATINUM CARE (100% solution-dyed polypropylene)
Tests are currently being carried out on carpets manufactured by Danfloor UK, specifically the following brands:-
- EQUINOX (heat set twist, solution-dyed polypropylene)
- EQUINOX TONES (heat set twist, solution-dyed polypropylene)
- INFINITY (cut-pile tufted, solution-dyed polypropylene)
- NEW GENERATION C/L (cut-pile tufted, nylon alto chroma)
- NEW GENERATION CUT (cut-pile tufted, nylon alto chroma)

Difficil-S can safely be used on most surfaces, equipment, utensils, floors (inc. polypropylene carpets), walls, mattresses and the majority of soft furnishings. It has a near neutral Ph which allows it to be used on metal surfaces without the pitting normally caused by chlorine-based disinfectants. This facilitates Difficil-S being used everywhere there is a need for disinfection without the need for different products for different areas.
-
DIFFICIL-S® has a low Ph and therefore will not cause irritation if it comes into contact with skin. However, we would recommend the use of gloves when handling any chemical. DIFFICIL-S® is also non-carcinogenic as no cancer causing compounds are produced by combination with organic waste.
-
DIFFICIL-S® is presented as a two-part powder supplied in sachet form which is added to 10 litres of cold water in the provided mixing vessel. The solution only needs 30 seconds to dissolve and can then be kept for up to 10 days with no loss of efficacy in the airtight mixing vessel. DIFFICIL-S® can be siphoned into the provided 500ml trigger jet bottles for use in different infection areas. Alternatively the solution can be further diluted with water for use on large surface areas.

Once the solution has been decanted into the 500ml trigger jet bottles, it should ideally be used within 24 hours. However, the prepared solution can be kept for up to 10 days with no loss of efficacy in the provided mixing vessel due to its airtight fitting. This is obviously a considerable saving on cost as the majority of chlorine-based disinfectants must be used within a few hours.
-
Follow the instructions for the preparation of DIFFICIL-S® and then the solution can be used at the same strength everywhere, whatever the challenge. For large surface areas, the ready-mixed solution can be further diluted by adding 200ml of DIFFICIL-S® to each litre of water in the cleaning bucket.
-
We are committed to providing full support for all training in the preparation and use of DIFFICIL-S® by way of a dedicated nurse trainer who will be available on-site during the duration of the training. We also provide an instructional DVD and training literature.

Store in a cool dry place below 25°C. Do not store with acids or combustible materials. The sachets can be kept for up to 30 months with no loss of efficacy which makes the storage of DIFFICIL-S® low bulk.
