Non-Rinse Disinfection of Mattress Covers using DIFFICIL-S®
Mattress contamination is a significant issue in the healthcare sector causing not only capital expenditure for replacement mattresses but also causing severe disruption within the ward.
The current cleaning protocol for mattress decontamination seems to predominantly rely on chlorine-based products eg. SDIC (chlorine granules or tablets) but these have been shown to produce delamination or 'strike-through' of the mattress cover. In addition, by using the standard 1000ppm (3-log reduction) of SDIC, Clostridium difficile spores still remain active and therefore decontamination has not been fully achieved.
Recent testing with a major mattress fabric manufacturer has produced outstanding results in that DIFFICIL-S® does not have a deleterious effect on the mattress fabric and does not need to be rinsed after application (non-cytotoxic).
